11 novembre 1940-2010 :

Le « Collectif France 40 » à Londres

Suite à l’opération « Dynamo 1940-2010 » des 29 et 30 mai 2010, l’entente cordiale franco-britannique se porte au mieux !

En effet, du 10 au 14 novembre 2010, une délégation du « Collectif France 40 », composée des associations « le Chardon » (Johannes Tytgat et Didier Lauvergeon) et « France 40 » (Jean-François Catteau et Gonzague Carpentier), ainsi que de Monsieur Bernard Weisbecker (Maire de Leffrinckoucke), accompagnés de leurs familles respectives, ont été les hôtes officiels de la Royal British Legion de Buckhurst Hill (Forêt d’Epping, Essex), représentée par Madame Janice Curd, Messieurs Deryck E.T. Selby (Président) et Stephen Goddard (Chairman).

C’est avec un immense plaisir et avec honneur que nous avons donc été vos ambassadeurs lors des cérémonies du 11 novembre à Londres aux côtés de nos amis britanniques.

Le jeudi 11 novembre a eu lieu un service du souvenir en l’église St John de Buckhurst Hill. Les élèves de l’école St John’s, ainsi que les enfants de la délégation française ont déposé des couronnes de coquelicots au Carré militaire en hommage aux Morts du Commonwealth (Le coquelicot, Poppie, est l’équivalent anglais du Bleuet de France). Les enfants français ont d’ailleurs ensuite passé toute la journée à l’école en compagnie de leurs camarades anglais.

Le soir une réception officielle eut lieu au Woollard Hall à l’invitation de Madame Joyce Darby, Présidente du Buckhurst Hill Parish Council. C’est à cette occasion que nos amis britanniques ont présenté à leur concitoyen la vitrine du « Lee-Enfield Mark III ». Ce présent avait été offert par nos amis du « Chardon » lors de l’opération « Dynamo 1940-2010 » au Fort des Dunes à la Royal British Legion de Buckhurst Hill.

Le vendredi 12, la visite s’est poursuivie sur le terrain d’aviation de North Weald, un des théâtres très actif de la « Bataille d’Angleterre » ! Un musée très intéressant illustre la vie du terrain d'aviation et les combats des différents escadrons ayant séjourné là, dont des Norvégiens. Enfin, une ambiance très années 40 nous attendait à l'incontournable «Squadron Café».

Samedi 13, nous avons été reçus au plein centre de la City de Londres par le régiment «Inns of Court & City and Essex Yeomanry» pour assister, dans des conditions très privilégiées, au défilé du Lord Mayor’s Show (procession des corporations de la City de Londres), Merci Janice !

Dimanche 14, Ce fut le «Remembrance Sunday», la journée officielle anglaise du souvenir pour les victimes de toutes les guerres. Une messe du Souvenir, en l’église St John, nous a tous réuni dans une émouvante communion, puis une cérémonie commémorative eut lieu au Field of Remembrance, cérémonie présidée par Madame Eleanor Laing, Membre du Parlement.

Nous voulions remercier tout particulièrement Madame Janice Curd et Monsieur Stephen Goddard pour le formidable accueil qui nous a été réservé lors de ces belles journées et cérémonies du 11 novembre. Merci aussi à Carole Bailly en sa qualité d'interprète officielle.

Tout a été plus que parfait, la réussite de ces journées accentue, sans failles, à la pérennité de « l’Entente Cordiale » !

De nombreux projets sont maintenant lancés entre nos associations, nous vous en annoncerons très vite les thèmes. A bientôt donc !

Following the « Dynamo 1940-2010 » operation on May 29th and 30th 2010, the Franco-British entente cordial is at its best!

Last November 2010, from the 10th to the 14th, a delegation of the « Collectif France 40 », including « le Chardon » (Johannes Tytgat and Didier Lauvergeon) and « France 40 » (Jean-François Catteau and Gonzague Carpentier), as well as Monsieur le Maire of Leffrinckoucke (Bernard Weisbecker), and respective families, have been the official guests of the Buckhurst Hill Royal British Legion (Epping Forest, Essex), represented by Janice Curd, Deryck E.T. Selby (President) et Stephen Goddard (Chairman).

It’s with an immense pleasure and with honour that we have been your ambassadors during the ceremonies of the 11th November in London at the side of our British friends.

A souvenir service took place on Thursday 11th November at St John church in Buckhurst Hill.  The pupils from St John’s school, together with the children from the French delegation, put poppy wreaths in the military square in homage to the Commonwealth Deads (the poppy is the English equivalent to the French cornflower). The French children then spent the reminder of the day in the school with their English schoolfriends...

In the evening, an official reception took place at the Woollard Hall invited by Madame Joyce Darby, Président of the Buckhurst Hill Parish Council.  It’s during this event that our British friends have presented to their people the showcase with the “Lee-Enfield Mark III”.  This gift had been given by our friends from the “Chardon” to the Royal British Legion of Buckhurst Hill during the “Dynamo 1940-2010” operation at the Fort des Dunes.

On Friday the 12^th, the visit carried on on the North Weald airfield, one of the most active places of the Battle of England! A very interesting museum shows life on the airfield and the fights of the various squadrons who were based there, including some Norwegians. Finally, an atmosphere very 1940s was waiting for us in the infamous “Squadron Café”.

On Saturday 13^th, we were welcomed right in the middle of the London by the “Inns of Court & City Yeomanry” regiment to watch, in very privileged conditions, the Lord Mayor’s Show procession.  Thanks a lot Janice!

On Sunday the 14^th, we attended “Remembrance Sunday”, the official English day to remember all the victims of all the wars. A Remembrance mass, at St John Church, united everyone in a moving communion, then a commemorative ceremony took place at the Field of Remembrance, ceremony presided by Madame Eleanor Laing, Member of Parliament.

We wanted to especially thank Madame Janice Curd and Monsieur Stephen Goddard for the amazing welcome which we had during these beautiful days and remembrance ceremonies. Thank you too to Carole Bailly as the official translator.

Everything was more than perfect, the success of these events are a big factor in keeping the « l’Entente Cordiale » alive!
